福建林遠(yuan)圖以七十二路辟(pi)邪劍法稱雄(xiong)武林,創立福威鏢局(ju),馳(chi)騁江湖(hu)。遠(yuan)圖死后,子(zi)孫(sun)無能,四(si)方豪杰(jie)覬覦辟(pi)邪劍譜,紛至沓來。總鏢頭林震南(nan)一(yi)門被(bei)青城派(pai)屠戮(lu)殆盡。遺孤林平(ping)之拜投華山派(pai)掌門君子(zi)劍岳不群門下,一(yi)心學藝(yi)報仇。
華山派長徒令(ling)狐沖自(zi)幼失怙,與岳(yue)不(bu)群獨女岳(yue)靈(ling)珊青梅(mei)竹馬(ma),情好甚(shen)篤(du)。平之入門,靈(ling)珊乃移情于林。令(ling)狐失戀(lian),又因豪放不(bu)羈,違反門規,被罰思過崖(ya)面壁(bi)一載(zai),無意間得窺(kui)崖(ya)后(hou)暗洞中石(shi)刻(ke),盡悉五岳(yue)劍派劍術(shu)(shu)秘訣,后(hou)蒙(meng)華山劍宗前輩——隱士風清揚傳授獨孤九(jiu)劍,從此劍術(shu)(shu)通神。
其(qi)時武林之(zhi)中,既有(you)正邪之(zhi)判,復存門(men)戶之(zhi)別(bie),少林、武當、青城(cheng)、五(wu)岳(yue)(yue)(yue)自詡正教與魔教(日(ri)月神教)冤冤相報,誓不(bu)兩立。五(wu)岳(yue)(yue)(yue)劍派名雖一體,實存芥蒂。嵩山掌門(men)左(zuo)冷禪(chan)野心勃勃,意(yi)欲吞并五(wu)岳(yue)(yue)(yue),稱(cheng)霸江湖,自恃盟主身份,凌(ling)駕四(si)岳(yue)(yue)(yue)掌門(men),挑撥(bo)華山劍宗爭奪掌門(men)之(zhi)位,岳(yue)(yue)(yue)不(bu)群(qun)原(yuan)屬氣宗,劍、氣二宗素不(bu)相和,不(bu)群(qun)率本門(men)弟(di)子外出避禍,遭左(zuo)道之(zhi)士埋伏,俱(ju)被擒獲。賴(lai)令狐(hu)沖(chong)以獨孤劍法刺瞎對方(fang)十五(wu)人雙(shuang)目(mu),化(hua)險(xian)為夷(yi),然岳(yue)(yue)(yue)不(bu)群(qun)從(cong)此見疑于令狐(hu)沖(chong)。
先是令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)因(yin)行(xing)俠仗義,舍(she)身救(jiu)人(ren)(ren)(ren),身負(fu)重(zhong)(zhong)傷(shang),旋經江湖(hu)怪人(ren)(ren)(ren)桃谷六仙(xian)濫(lan)施救(jiu)冶,傷(shang)勢(shi)益重(zhong)(zhong)。及岳(yue)不(bu)(bu)群等至(zhi)洛(luo)陽與林平(ping)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)外祖(zu)(zu)王(wang)元(yuan)霸(ba)家,令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)沖(chong)因(yin)懷有笑傲江湖(hu)曲(qu)(qu)譜(pu)(pu)復(fu)見(jian)疑于(yu)(yu)元(yuan)霸(ba)父子(zi),以(yi)為(wei)曲(qu)(qu)譜(pu)(pu)即林家祖(zu)(zu)傳之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)“辟邪劍譜(pu)(pu)”。因(yin)曲(qu)(qu)譜(pu)(pu)深奧難解,令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)亦百(bai)口難辯(bian),乃質諸(zhu)洛(luo)陽隱(yin)士綠(lv)竹(zhu)翁,并(bing)因(yin)而結識(shi)綠(lv)竹(zhu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)姑(gu)(gu),鑒定確系曲(qu)(qu)譜(pu)(pu),釋眾(zhong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)疑。綠(lv)竹(zhu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)姑(gu)(gu)同情令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)遭遇,授以(yi)琴(qin)曲(qu)(qu)“清(qing)心普善咒(zhou)”,助(zhu)其療(liao)傷(shang),令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)于(yu)(yu)失戀(lian)遭嫉(ji)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)余,得(de)人(ren)(ren)(ren)眷顧,甚(shen)感(gan)欣(xin)慰,臨(lin)去(qu)依依不(bu)(bu)舍(she),然始(shi)終未睹其面(mian),離洛(luo)赴閩,一路之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)上,江湖(hu)左道幫派(pai),踵武相接,饋贈奇珍秘藥,來助(zhu)令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)療(liao)傷(shang)。口稱令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)公子(zi),禮敬有加,唯置岳(yue)不(bu)(bu)群于(yu)(yu)不(bu)(bu)顧。后于(yu)(yu)五霸(ba)岡(gang)聚眾(zhong)數(shu)千,擄(lu)劫名醫,為(wei)令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)診治(zhi)。令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)既(ji)不(bu)(bu)明所(suo)以(yi),岳(yue)不(bu)(bu)群更猜忌重(zhong)(zhong)重(zhong)(zhong),終棄之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)而去(qu)。群豪至(zhi)晚(wan)皆散(san),令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)獨處岡(gang)上,落拓無依,百(bai)無聊賴(lai)。忽聞(wen)琴(qin)聲出于(yu)(yu)草舍(she),知綠(lv)竹(zhu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)姑(gu)(gu)亦在岡(gang)上,心下竊(qie)喜。問答(da)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)際,少林派(pai)辛(xin)國梁等上岡(gang)搜查魔教余黨,令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)力阻辛(xin)等入草棚凌欺綠(lv)竹(zhu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)姑(gu)(gu),再(zai)受(shou)(shou)重(zhong)(zhong)創。與姑(gu)(gu)下岡(gang)避難,辛(xin)國梁等復(fu)來尋(xun)仇,綠(lv)竹(zhu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)姑(gu)(gu)力殺四人(ren)(ren)(ren),亦受(shou)(shou)重(zhong)(zhong)傷(shang)。令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)負(fu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)落荒而走,及澗水倒映(ying)其面(mian),始(shi)知綠(lv)竹(zhu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)姑(gu)(gu)竟(jing)為(wei)妙齡少女,該女羞赦不(bu)(bu)勝(sheng),自稱盈盈。經此變故,二人(ren)(ren)(ren)互生情愫,然令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)以(yi)其行(xing)事怪異,頗(po)存疑惑。

獨(du)(du)(du)行(xing)仙霞(xia)嶺,喬裝泉州參(can)將吳(wu)天德,恰(qia)逢恒山(shan)弟子遇(yu)魔(mo)教(jiao)(jiao)埋伏,乃(nai)拔劍(jian)相助,擊退(tui)強敵(di)。后(hou)于廿(nian)八鋪救出(chu)被(bei)(bei)(bei)魔(mo)教(jiao)(jiao)擄劫之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)恒山(shan)女尼,領隊師太(tai)定(ding)靜苦戰力(li)竭而(er)(er)亡。遺言囑(zhu)令(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)狐(hu)(hu)(hu)(hu)護(hu)送門下(xia)弟子赴(fu)福(fu)建水月(yue)庵(an)。令(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)狐(hu)(hu)(hu)(hu)遵囑(zhu)將群(qun)(qun)尼安(an)頓,即往福(fu)威(wei)鏢局尋(xun)師,見岳(yue)靈珊(shan)與(yu)林(lin)(lin)平之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)于鏢局查找(zhao)辟邪(xie)劍(jian)譜,被(bei)(bei)(bei)蒙面二人(ren)(ren)點(dian)倒(dao),二人(ren)(ren)尋(xun)出(chu)一(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)紅色袈(jia)裟,逾墻而(er)(er)出(chu)。令(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)狐(hu)(hu)(hu)(hu)尋(xun)蹤(zong)追趕,殺死(si)(si)二人(ren)(ren),奪(duo)回袈(jia)裟,因(yin)上(shang)有(you)字(zi)跡,意(yi)必為辟邪(xie)劍(jian)譜,急欲呈(cheng)送岳(yue)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)群(qun)(qun),終以(yi)負傷(shang)(shang)昏倒(dao)于鏢局門外(wai)。及蘇醒,得(de)(de)(de)見師父母及同(tong)門兄(xiong)弟,大(da)慰情(qing)懷(huai),然(ran)(ran)袈(jia)裟已(yi)(yi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)見,遂被(bei)(bei)(bei)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)群(qun)(qun)誣指其(qi)偷竊辟邪(xie)劍(jian)譜,刺傷(shang)(shang)林(lin)(lin)平之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),殺死(si)(si)師弟英白羅,令(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)(ling)狐(hu)(hu)(hu)(hu)力(li)白其(qi)冤,不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)獲諒解。幾死(si)(si)于不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)群(qun)(qun)掌下(xia),賴師母佑(you)護(hu),逃離鏢局。

令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)與(yu)(yu)盈(ying)(ying)盈(ying)(ying)辭出,會(hui)(hui)同任我行(xing)、向問天喬裝入魔教總壇——黑木崖,殺死東(dong)方不(bu)敗,任我行(xing)乃得(de)重登教主(zhu)之(zhi)位。令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)不(bu)滿任我行(xing)威福自(zi)用,不(bu)辭而別(bie)。值左冷禪舉行(xing)五岳(yue)并(bing)派(pai)大會(hui)(hui),令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)率恒(heng)山(shan)弟子(zi)(zi)齊赴嵩山(shan),左事先(xian)策劃(hua)周密,挑動泰(tai)山(shan)派(pai)內訌,誅除掌(zhang)門天門道(dao)人,自(zi)認已穩坐五岳(yue)派(pai)掌(zhang)門之(zhi)位。盈(ying)(ying)盈(ying)(ying)喬裝混入恒(heng)山(shan)人群(qun),以傳音之(zhi)術(shu)唆使(shi)“桃谷六仙”攪亂(luan)會(hui)(hui)場(chang)(chang),議定比劍(jian)以定掌(zhang)門。岳(yue)不(bu)群(qun)則使(shi)靈珊出場(chang)(chang),分別(bie)以諸(zhu)派(pai)劍(jian)法(fa)力勝泰(tai)山(shan)玉璣(ji)子(zi)(zi)、玉磐子(zi)(zi)、及衡山(shan)掌(zhang)門莫(mo)大先(xian)生。時靈珊已與(yu)(yu)林平之(zhi)成婚,令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)見靈珊忽忽不(bu)樂,乃登場(chang)(chang)以“沖靈劍(jian)法(fa)”與(yu)(yu)之(zhi)對舞,終(zhong)至(zhi)于(yu)自(zi)傷。而岳(yue)不(bu)群(qun)突然發難,以如(ru)鬼如(ru)魅之(zhi)辟邪劍(jian)法(fa)刺(ci)瞎左冷禪雙(shuang)目,奪得(de)五岳(yue)派(pai)掌(zhang)門。群(qun)雄散訖,令(ling)狐(hu)(hu)沖與(yu)(yu)盈(ying)(ying)盈(ying)(ying)相聚,二人幾(ji)經(jing)生死患難,終(zhong)成知(zhi)心情侶。
