1984年，英(ying)國(guo)歌(ge)手(shou)菲爾(er)·科(ke)林斯（Phil Collins）看到新聞中非洲(zhou)埃塞俄比亞等地區的(de)人民(min)(min)，長期處于饑荒與營養不良而死亡，遂在(zai)圣(sheng)誕節(jie)之前提出構想(xiang)，由鮑勃·吉爾(er)道夫(fu)（Bob Geldof）擔任召集人，由數十(shi)(shi)位當紅藝人以「Band Aid」為名共同灌錄單(dan)曲(qu)義(yi)賣，將義(yi)賣所得(de)援助非洲(zhou)饑民(min)(min)，單(dan)曲(qu)《他們知(zhi)道現在(zai)是圣(sheng)誕節(jie)嗎？》（Do they know it's Christmas ?）于焉誕生。這張(zhang)單(dan)曲(qu)推出后，立即在(zai)全(quan)世界引起回響，光是英(ying)美兩地就賣出約三百(bai)二十(shi)(shi)萬(wan)張(zhang) 。
